Dancing Like a Fool in My Kitchen

I love music!  It is always on in the background or the forefront.  I have customized a few stations almost to the point of perfection.  I don’t just love the music that I have listened to for decades now (although I do that from time to time), but I love NEW music.  There are so many genres of music and my oldest son has this thing about having the precise classification…WHATEVER.  I think what I gravitate towards is mostly considered Alternative although he would probably disagree.  The point is I love music and I love to dance!

Yes, I am that person dancing while sitting at the stoplight and I am pretty sure if my neighbors are paying attention they have seen me bust a move in the middle of my driveway or behind my lawnmower.  But my real dancefloor is my kitchen.  My kitchen is probably big enough for a small island which would provide some much needed cabinet and storage space, but if I did that then where would I dance? And there definitely wouldn’t be any room for me and my son to dance together as we often do.

In those moments nothing matters except for which arm, leg, foot, or hand I am going to fling and in what direction.

When I dance it is not orchestrated or even beautiful, but it feels gorgeous.  In those moments nothing matters except for which arm, leg, foot, or hand I am going to fling and in what direction.  I am envious of people who have the incredible gift and talent to make music, and to make me feel through sound.  There is the feeling that an old song from another time thrusts me back to and the uncharted area that new music takes me to.

I have reached that point in my life where I likely have more yesterdays than tomorrows and that has inspired quirky thoughts like “I wonder when I will stop appreciating new music/musicians?”  The idea of that pains me and so I hope that day never comes.

Maybe music doesn’t fire up your soul and transport you to another place and time or evoke involuntary emotions, but find the thing that does and dive in head first. Go along for the ride.
